Sara Forsythe-Menna, LCSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Sara Forsythe-Menna graduated from Loyola University in May of 1994 with a Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) and certification as a school social worker. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), certified school social worker (Type 73), and a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Prior to obtaining her degree from Loyola, Ms. Forsythe worked as a women's counselor at The Constance Morris House, a shelter for battered women where she provided group and individual therapy and crisis-line counseling. Case management, advocacy, and community outreach were also part of her duties. Constance Morris House provided Sara with an opportunity to incorporate both of her undergraduate degrees, Women Studies and Psychology and launched her into pursuing further education in Social Work. While obtaining her degree from Loyola, Ms. Forsythe interned at Bell Elementary School and the Jewish Children's Bureau Therapeutic Day School. As in intern she provided group, individual, and family therapy, social assessments, Individual Education Plan (IEP) development, and staff consultation.

Upon completing her degree, Ms. Forsythe accepted a position as a school social worker at the Jewish Children's Bureau Therapeutic Day School where she worked with severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents and addressed a variety of treatment issues. These issues included developmental delays, severe emotional and physical abuse, sexual abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Tourette's Disorder. In addition to providing individual and family psychotherapy she led groups on issues of social skill development, young girls coping with adolescence, and general self-esteem. She worked closely with the parents and teachers in an effort to advocate for her students and to facilitate their growth. She also held a supervisory role with college interns and new school social workers. After leaving Jewish Children's Bureau (JCB) she accepted a position as a clinical social worker at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center where she provided short and long-term psychotherapy to adults, children, adolescents, and families within a managed care system.

Ms. Forsythe has brought to Associates in Therapy and Assessment her significant clinical experience and broad perspective developed in school, agency, and private practice settings. She uses her expertise and understanding with child, adolescent, and adult clients challenged by depression, anxiety, grief/loss, self-esteem concerns, trauma, and relationship concerns including couples/marital therapy. She is a group facilitator in the Smart Girls, Strong Women program at Associates In Therapy and Assessment. In addition, she continues to be passionate about women's issues and in working with women as they face challenges across the lifespan.
