Group Therapy

The human desire to belong involves more than wanting to have one's needs met; there appears to be an inherent social need, a need for human connection. Much of our life is lived in groups, from the family, neighborhoods and schools of childhood, through our groups of friends in adolescence, and into our family and occupational groups as adults. Our life in these groups has likely been characterized by powerful and lasting relationships. When this connection with others is disrupted by individual challenges, the group can provide the context to reconnect and learn from our shared experiences.

Group therapy provides an opportunity for individuals to come together, share their concerns, develop insight, increase self-control, receive support and learn from other group members. With the assistance of our skilled clinicians, group therapy can benefit members who share common human concerns through the support and the sharing of experiences of other group members.

Groups currently offered at Associates in Therapy and Assessment

Strong Girls, Smart Women

Strong Girls, Smart Women is a group program designed to empower adolescent girls. Each 12-week offering is provided with the unique interests and concerns of girls and young women in mind. The chance to participate in this special experience is offered as three separate groups:

  • Pre-teen
  • Freshman and Sophomore
  • Junior and Senior

These groups bring together members of similar age who can share this special, yet sometimes challenging time in their life with other girls, as they give and receive support and understanding in their journey to becoming women.
